Ceramic Sanitary Ware Buyer FAQ — MOQ, Tooling, Lead Times & Consolidation
Direct answers for importers, distributors and project buyers: minimum order quantities, custom tooling and golden sample timelines, third-party inspection, export packing and container consolidation — answered by the TAITAO factory team in Tangshan, with no trading company in between.
Ordering & MOQ
3 Q&AWhat is the minimum order quantity?
For models built on existing factory moulds the MOQ is 100 pcs per model. A design that needs its own tooling is quoted higher, and the exact figure is confirmed against your specification at quotation, because adapting an existing mould costs far less than cutting a new one.
Can you provide samples before bulk ordering?
Yes. Samples are available for catalog models and for selected custom work. Sample cost and freight are normally covered by the buyer and can be credited back against the bulk order, and the sampling requirement is quoted alongside the specification rather than after it.
Can you provide private labeling?
Yes. Your mark can be applied as a kiln-fired under-glaze marking, laser-etched onto the fired body, or printed on the packaging. Branding an existing model carries a lower MOQ than developing a new tool, which usually makes it the fastest route to a first container under your own name.
OEM / ODM & Tooling
6 Q&ACan you provide technical drawings?
Technical drawings are available for the models in your enquiry, and the file formats are confirmed at quotation so that we send what your own CAD environment can open. Dimensional data is always taken from the drawing for the model you are ordering — never inferred from a generic catalogue page.
Can you match a specific colour for the ceramics?
Our standard finish range is Glossy White, Matte White, Matte Grey and Matte Black, alongside Dual-Color and Two-Tone bodies where the interior stays white and the apron carries the colour. Beyond that we match against your physical sample or a colour reference on larger projects. Because we run our own glaze line, the finish on the approved sample is the finish on the production run.
What is your standard lead time and tooling cost for a new custom ceramic sink or basin mold?
Our in-house 3-axis CNC tooling center completes 3D CAD design in 2-3 days, 1:1 master physical mockups in 5-6 days, and high-pressure porous resin production dies in 12-15 days. Fired golden samples are typically dispatched via air courier within 45 to 60 days of CAD approval (45 days for kitchen and bathroom sinks and 60 days for toilets). Tooling charges are quoted per project based on mold complexity and are 100% refundable once cumulative order volumes reach the agreed milestone.
What is the development lead time for a new OEM product?
New OEM product development is quoted end to end from design approval: 45 days for kitchen and bathroom sinks and 60 days for toilets to a fired first sample, and 90 days for kitchen and bathroom sinks and 120 days for toilets to a finished 1,000-piece order.
What is HPC, and why does the casting method matter?
HPC stands for High-Pressure Casting: the slip is injected into a reusable microporous mould under pressure, and the water is forced out through the pores so the ceramic particles compact against the mould wall. Our casting lines are developed and maintained in-house. What matters to a buyer is the outcome rather than the mechanism — a consistent wall section across a large body, which is something you verify with a wall-thickness report on fired pieces rather than take on trust.
Where is your factory located, and can we visit?
Our factory is located in Tangshan, Hebei Province, China, a world-renowned ceramic production hub. We have a large showroom on site, and we also offer virtual tours via video call.
Lead Time, Packing & Logistics
5 Q&AWhat is the lead time for bulk orders?
Current products (based on a 1,000-unit order): toilets — 60 days; kitchen and bathroom sinks — 50 days. Our strategic factory location is only 120 km from Tianjin Xingang Port, so container drayage to vessel cut-off takes just 2 hours, eliminating inland rail delays.
How are the products packaged for international shipping?
We use 5-layer corrugated or double-wall export cartons built to export-standard protection, with custom branding available. We offer flexible packaging solutions and fully support the standards adopted by our customers, ensuring safe transit and brand consistency.
Do you offer eco-friendly packaging?
Yes, we can provide plastic-free or reduced-plastic packaging options upon request.
Can you help with shipping and logistics?
Yes, we work with several reliable freight forwarders and can offer FOB, CIF, or DDP terms depending on your location.
Can we mix kitchen sinks, bathroom basins, and toilets inside the same full container load (FCL)?
Yes, absolutely! Unlike single-category factories, TAITAO manufactures all three product families on one campus. We routinely consolidate fine fireclay sinks, thin-edge basins, and siphon toilets into single full container load (FCL) shipments, allowing importers and regional distributors to optimize inventory turnover without excess warehousing overhead.
Certifications & Compliance
1 Q&AAre your products compatible with North American plumbing requirements?
The cUPC listing is the route our products take into the United States and Canada, and it is issued for specific models rather than for a whole range. Send the model numbers you intend to ship and we will confirm the scope that covers them — a listing covering one model in a family does not automatically cover its neighbour, and that gap is the quietest import risk there is.
Quality & Testing
9 Q&AWhat is the firing temperature for your products?
Fireclay and vitreous china bodies are fired through a 96-metre tunnel kiln between 1200°C and 1280°C, and the glaze matures in the same firing. Temperature control across the kiln zones is the part of the process we watch most closely, because that is what decides whether the glaze fits the body it was fired with.
What is the difference between fireclay and standard ceramic?
The difference is what each body was formulated to do. Fireclay carries a high proportion of heat-resistant raw material and fires at a higher temperature, which is what lets a large thin-walled body hold its shape instead of softening at peak temperature. Standard vitreous china is formulated for near-zero porosity, which is what suits toilets and basins. Both are fired ceramic with no metal inside them, so neither has a core that can rust if the surface is ever damaged.
How do I clean and maintain the ceramic surface?
Mild soap and water, and a soft cloth. The fired glaze gives a non-porous working surface, so there is no need for harsh chemicals — and there are things to avoid: no steel wool or scouring pads, no abrasive powders, no undiluted strong acid, and do not let citrus, vinegar or wine stand in the basin. Grey lines left by cutlery or tins are usually metal transfer sitting on the glaze rather than a scratch through it, and they lift off with a mild non-scouring cleaner.
What certifications do your products hold?
Our Tangshan facility operates under ISO 9001 quality management. cUPC, CE, UKCA and WaterMark are listed for the relevant product lines and destination markets, with certificate file numbers available on request. Because a listing is issued per model, the scope is confirmed against the exact models on your order rather than assumed from the range.
How do you ensure product quality?
Quality is built into the process and verified on 100% of production. Our automated lines cover precision batching with porous resin dies, high-pressure casting (HPC), robotic 6-axis cleanroom spray glazing, and firing in a 96-meter computerized tunnel kiln at 1200–1280°C. Every single unit then passes a strict 4-stage quality control pipeline: (1) raw mineral purity and slip rheology laboratory testing; (2) post-firing 100% optical inspection under 1,000-Lux lighting; (3) 100% hydrostatic, dual-flush and zero-leak testing; and (4) static weight load and extreme thermal shock destructive testing. In addition, our on-campus metrology and materials testing lab operates 4 standardized engineering test benches and rigs — including a 400 kg hydraulic static load press, a cyclic boiling water thermal shock tank, and a vacuum desiccator water absorption rig — tested in accordance with North American (ASME/cUPC), European (EN), and Australian (WaterMark) criteria.
What is the water absorption rate of your ceramics?
For vitreous china toilets and basins, firing at 1200°C–1280°C brings the water absorption rate below 0.2%. Precise temperature control across the different zones of the tunnel kiln is our core manufacturing expertise.
What glaze materials do you use?
Standard glaze is applied at 0.6mm – 1.0mm thickness. Optional upgrades are also available — you may choose one of three: premium self-cleaning glaze, antibacterial glaze, or nano-glaze.
What is the thickness of the ceramic body?
It is a per-model value, and part of the answer is that 'thickness' means two different things on a sink. The rim that sits over the worktop is one measurement; the cast body wall is another, and the wall is thicker. On our inset CD series, for example, the rim is 0.71 in (18 mm ± 3 mm) and the body wall on the CD-86 is 1.26 in (32 mm ± 3 mm) — both published on the model pages. Toilet bodies typically run 10–12 mm. Read the figure for the model you are ordering off its own drawing, because that is the number the tool was cut to.
Can we appoint third-party inspection firms (e.g. SGS, Intertek, Bureau Veritas, or QIMA) prior to loading?
We warmly welcome and facilitate third-party QA audits. Our facility features a dedicated 1,000-Lux inspection bay, granite calibration tables, MaP flush rigs, and hydraulic test benches specifically set aside for client inspection engineers. We also provide comprehensive in-house 100% inspection photo/video records before container sealing.
Product & Specifications
5 Q&AWhat types of kitchen sinks do you manufacture?
Fine fireclay and ceramic kitchen sinks across the formats a distributor actually has to cover: apron-front farmhouse, workstation with an integrated accessory ledge, undermount, inset drop-in, and inset bodies with an integrated drainer in single-bowl and one-and-a-half-bowl layouts. Twenty-one models are in production across that range.
Do you produce rimless toilets?
Yes — rimless is a core part of the toilet range. Removing the internal rim channel means the entire bowl surface is reachable both by water and by a cloth, which changes what the housekeeping task consists of rather than only how the bowl looks. A rim is a water-distribution channel, not a source of flushing force, so rimless geometry and solid-evacuation performance are not a trade-off.
Are your toilets dual-flush?
Most of the modern models are dual-flush at 4 litres and 6 litres, so the common case uses the smaller volume. Flush performance and water volume are separate questions, and both can be stated as measured figures with a stated method rather than as adjectives.
Do you offer soft-close toilet seats?
Yes — every current model ships with a soft-close seat as standard, in UF or PP depending on the model. Replacement seats are available as a spare part, which matters more to a property manager than the seat itself does.
What is the maximum load-bearing capacity of your toilets?
Our wall-hung models are tested to withstand over 400 kg of static load. The figure is worth having on file, because a wall-hung installation transfers the whole load into the in-wall carrier frame — which is why the frame belongs in the specification alongside the pan, not after it.
Commercial Terms & After-Sales
7 Q&AWhat is your annual production capacity?
Our annual production capacity is approximately 600,000 pieces across our tunnel and shuttle kilns.
What is the warranty period for your products?
We offer a 10-year warranty on the ceramic body and a 1-year warranty on flushing mechanisms and accessories.
How do you handle product claims or defects?
In the rare event of a defect, we provide 1:1 replacement or credit for the next order after verifying the issue with photos or videos.
Do you supply installation accessories?
Yes, every unit ships with its installation kit. For toilets: a soft-close seat, the flush mechanism and its fittings, floor fixing screws with decorative covers, a wax ring for a leak-proof seal, and an instruction manual. For kitchen sinks: a basket strainer and a bottom grid as standard, with a roll-up drying rack on the workstation models whose integrated ledge carries it.
